Three children, Alfie, Ava and Charlotte, exploring the Giant's Causeway: H J Gilfrew

Little book of short stories - A fun blog post about three kids who explore the Giant's Causeway in their homeland Northern Ireland.

Alfie, Ava, and Charlotte had been looking forward to their trip to explore the mysterious and beautiful Giant's Causeway in their homeland of Northern Ireland.

They had listened to stories about the fascinating rock formations and the legendary giants and imagined all sorts of adventures they could have together when they arrived.

Finally, the day came, and they set off early in the morning, with Mum and Dad armed with their little water boots, raincoats, and backpacks full of goodies, snacks, and water bottles, in the boot of the car and a sense of adventure.

As they arrived at the Causeway, Charlotte shouted, " Mum, Dad, look", as she pointed her finger out the car window and wondered at the stunning sight before her. It looked like Hundreds of hexagonal basalt columns had risen from the sea in front of them, forming a landscape of all shapes and colours.

Charlotte, Ava and Aflie were amazed, so excited they couldn't wait for the car to stop; finally, Dad pulled into a parking space; Mum said to stay in the car till I get all your gear from the boot, hardly able to contain their joy, Mum got them all ready for their adventures with their little backpacks and water bottles.

Without hesitation, the three children set off to explore with Mum and Dad closely by their side, slowly Dad said as they hopped from rock to rock. Climbing up and down, they all peered towards the cliffs and marvelled at the natural wonders around them.

In the distance, They spotted hidden caves, tiny pools of water, and strange formations; curious at sight before them, Alfie said to Ava and Charlotte, I believe in giants, do you? of course, replied the two.

Walking some more, they came across a group of people listening to a Man explaining the myths and legends of the area. Mum, Dad and The children listened eagerly, learning about a battle and a giant called Finn McCool. They were all ears.

Do you think Finn McCool is still living in the caves said, Ava? Maybe said Charlotte and Alfie, Mum and Dad, what do you think? They said; Mum and Dad Laughed; I hope not As they wandered deeper into the Causeway.

Whispering among themselves at what they had heard, the children said they even have names for the giants; they all giggled at the thought of a giant called Finn McCool hurling rocks at someone and imagined themselves as tiny people watching a vast battle taking place. This place is magical, they all said.

As the day went on, the children were getting hungry; well, sit down here said Mum to Dad; they all sat down on a few rocks, and the children started to unravel their backpacks and took out their lunch boxes full of goodies and opened their water bottles.

As they began to eat, Mum said are you all enjoying yourselves? Yes, They all cheered as they started discussing their favourite parts of the day, from Finn McCool to the hidden caves.

They had seen and experienced so much in just a few hours. Mum and Dad knew they had created memories that would last a lifetime. Watching the waves crash against the steep cliffs, they watched the kittiwake nesting on the very top of the cliffs;

The children listened to them in their noisy colonies as they finished the last of their sandwiches; those birds look much like a seagull, said Dad, with their grey and white wings and backs, said Mum they do.

Eventually, it was time to head back. The children returned to their car, feeling tired but grateful for the opportunity to explore such a beautiful and unique place.

Mum and Dad knew the children would always treasure their memories of the Giant's Causeway, so they promised to return another day to discover even more with Alfie, Ava and Charlotte.

The End
